Prepare to Drop!

Image
So somehow I've managed to become involved with not one but two new game systems! I initially picked up dropfleet commander rulebook after playing a lot of battlefleet gothic, and wanting to try something different. Both games were designed by Andy Chambers, with Dropfleet Commander almost being BFG 2.0 My intention was to look at converting my existing Battlefleet Gothic ships over to use Dropfleet Commander rules., however as with a lot of hobbying projects this was put on the back burner, until recently when a friend mentioned playing Dropfleet Commander. I had a quick look at the TT Combat and immediately became enamoured with the resistance fleet.  The old earth fleet and scrap fleet ships both look great, so I picked up 2 starter sets as well as a pack of detonators, monitors and destroyers. The starter sets each contain 3 cruiser and 4 frigates. The cruisers can be built as light, standard or heavy cruisers. U like other factio...

Sailing the Seas of Pannithor

Image
I've recently been working on a number of "old school" Warhammer Fantasy armies using minis from Mantic's Kings of War game. Mantic have recently released Armada, which is a fantasy naval combat game set in the World of Pannithor. I had seen the game but it wasn't until I made a visit to the Mantic HQ in Nottingham that I saw the ships in person. Armada is based on Warlord Games' rules for their Black Seas system, with a slight fantasy twist. Coincidentally, Warlord had a sale on some of Mantic's Armada items, so I managed to snag a rulebook, some acrylic templates and a card pack for the Kingdoms of Men faction (that uses Warlords ships in Mantic's game) for half price! Whilst the Basilean ships do look nice, when compared to the Warlord Games' Black Seas ships they do look very "heroic". I therefore decided to pick up the Dwarf and Empire of Dust starter sets. Whilst waiting for these to arrive I visited one of m...

Review - Amphibmods 6mm Resin Office Buildings

Image
Hi all. Today I'm going to be looking at some office buildings that i purchased from Amphibmods via eBay for use in Adeptus Titanicus and Epic Armageddon. The building is cast in resin with an integrated base, which has a good texture and includes some rubble details. There was some flash in the windows that needed cleaning up, some of it thick in places. There's also the occasional bubble if you look closely but at tabletop level these aren't noticeable. In terms of scale these buildings do look to be true 6mm, possibly slightly too small for Adeptus Titanicus, but they still provide decent cover for some smaller units, such as Questoris Knights. I purchased 4 of these buildings to add to my 6mm city terrain collection. The cost was £2.50 per building plus postage, which I feel is fantastic value.  The fact that they are already built means that you could spray them black, give them a quick dry brush and get them straight onto th...

Pokémon Trading Card Game - Cube Format

Image
Hi all. Today I'm going to be having a look at what has become my preferred way of playing the Pokémon  Trading Card Game. I've been a Pokémon TCG player since the very beginning (In the UK at least). The game was first released in the UK whilst I was in year 6 of primary school, so it was great to go down the corner shop after school to buy a pack of cards in search of that elusive Charizard or Chansey (that remained elusive). Fast forward 20 years or so and I can now walk into the local game store and buy a whole box of boosters at once, or even buy single cards online. However it's sometimes very difficult to keep up to date with the latest release, meta and top decks and I can be very difficult trying to think of a deck idea when you may only play once or twice a month. The solution? A cube of course! Cubes are mostly known from the Magic The Gathering card game, however more and more Pokémon cubes seem to be popping up on the internet. A cube is b...
